“Renee Brown has partnered with us for
years to provide educational in-service programs for medical-staff
physicians and their staffs. They rely on these annually and always
leave with a wealth of knowledge and an eye-opening experience,”
said Angie Dugan, physician liaison for INTEGRIS Health of Oklahoma
City.
“Everyone loves Renee's ‘no nonsense’ style. The physicians respect
her,” said Dugan, who speaks of Brown’s incredible speaking ability
and knowledge in the practice management seminars.
“I sent out a flyer Monday and, by Tuesday, I had 40 reservations
and room for 60. You put her name out there and they will come. She
is a huge asset.”

“We needed someone
to go into our clinics and do a compliance review of billings and
collections,” said Bob Tyk, CFO/VP, of Skaggs Regional Medical
Center in Branson, MO they chose Renee Brown for the review. “Renee
Brown has a unique way to discuss a difficult topic with physician
and get them to listen to her and that is a gift.”
“Physicians can get a little arrogant and Renee has a way of
defusing that. I have never known a physician to not walk away (from
one of her compliance seminars) and not be extremely impressed with
her.”
“Renee Brown always says, ’I am the idiot auditor,’” said Diana Scherber of Norman (OK) Regional Health System. “She prepares you as
if you were to be audited by an outside source and she knows what
auditors are looking for.”
“She is just excellent with physicians. She can diffuse difficult
situations when we have administrative people like me,” said Scherber. “She’s good about standing her ground but not in an
abrasive way.”
Her proactive-education approach most demonstrates her value to us.
“We have two younger guys on board and they know little about coding
and documentation,” said Scherber. “She gave the
docs tools to carry around and use.”
“Her strengths? Experience in practice management issues and in
defending physicians under review with real data”
Deaconess was in need of assistance with billing and needed to have
a good resource – an external agency to audit charts, explained
Sabrina Miller, former director of practice management/Deaconess
Hospital in Oklahoma City.
“Renee Brown is just a go-to person. You name it, Renee knows the
answer to it,” said Miller. “She’s an incredible speaker who the
physicians easily come to respect and appreciate.”
“Her strength includes her salability to the physician. She’s been
doing it for so long, she knows the ins and the
outs. She doesn’t
just present it to you in black-and-white.”
“Renee Brown cuts to the chase,” said Joanna Smith, executive
co-director of Hearts for Hearing, a non-profit, audiology/speech
pathology group in Oklahoma City. “She has an uncanny ability to see
the bigger picture and to evaluate the situation.”
“Early on, we learned we could not keep doing what we were doing and
stay financially stable,” said Teresa Caraway, executive
co-director. They needed to talk straight with a billing company.
“Renee plays the heavy (with permission) when she has to, so we
didn’t have to do that.”
“She really helped us clean house,” said Smith. “It was very
refreshing” to work with her. “We were energized by how she dealt
with us.”
“Renee Brown is very fair. Sometimes, consultants are more about
them and not the data. She’s not caught up in that. She’s not quick
to blame. She calls it like it is,” said Terri McNeal-Hall with ARTechnologies, a billing company in Oklahoma City. “Renee Brown is
a dynamo. I get the right answers from her or she will steer me in
the right directions. She is phenomenal on audits and keeps the
physicians out of trouble. I have referred 10-20 physicians to her.”
“The first suggestion I made to the partner I brought in was to call
MPC’s Renee Brown,” said Michael Glass, M.D.,
obstetrician/gynecologist.
“She may be the single most important practice person I have met in
25 years of practicing, especially when I went out on my own. She is
such a straight shooter and so dependable. She’s the top drawer;
she’s the best. I can’t imagine opening up a practice without her.
On or off the record, she’s excellent.”
“She is qualified in so many areas and
is so intelligent about selling a practice, billing-service
recommendations and fee schedules. She has so many contacts with
people who can help.” |
| |
“To me, (Renee
Brown of MPC) not only walks on water but she spots the
fish,” said Ed Bertels, executive director of
Procure Treatment Center.
“I’ve worked with her on all kinds of projects during my
career. Now, I work for a company that does not have such
complicated billing practices. Some physician’s offices have
1,000 codes and we have 200, but I stay connected to Renee.
I value her opinion very much.” |

“If it had not
been for Renee (Brown of MPC), we would not have recovered
and would not be in business today,” said Ric Corman,
M.D. (family practice).
“Renee helped put a bunch of different systems in place for
high levels of accountability. Now, our receivables are
under control and we have been able to clean up from the
first-year mess.”
“We were having trouble with billings and accounts
receivable – collecting what we were owed. When we opened
our family-run practice, we did not know about billing and
insurance claims. Renee really, really helped us. She did
all the pre-screening and interviewing to hire a competent
office and billing manager. In the end, she found an
employee who was affordable.”
“In medical school there is no room to learn business
management practices and physicians really need it. Renee is
my most trusted advisor.” |
| |
“Renee (Brown of
MPC) is the most asked-for seminar speaker. When it comes to
physicians’ offices having her as a speaker is wonderful,”
said Sheri VanOosten, manager of Mercy Central at
Mercy Health Center. “She is the premier of
knowledge. If you don’t know something, she is the one to go
to for answers. She is highly requested. Her seminars for
us, which she offers twice a year, sell out with no less
than 100 attendees.”
“It’s the way she presents the facts and she always has
great handouts. Renee is clear and concise. She gives a
timeline for the changes with the government. She explains
that this is the way it is, this is what is coming and what
you need to do to get ready for it.” |
| |
Renee (Brown of MPC) is just wonderful. She helps our
physicians in managing their offices” said
Emmy
Potter, Edmond Medical Center. “She provides us
with the newest and latest information, such as what is
coming in the way of changes to the profession.”
“She is just so wise and really up to date. If I ever have a
question, I call her and she either knows, or will find, the
answer. I can’t think of a thing to recommend that she
change.” |

“I have a headache-free type of
practice, completely stress-free. My denial rate is down by more
than 75 percent, which lets me take care of patients,” said
gastroenterologist Imad Zantout, M.D. of MPC’s services.
“Renee Brown has been indispensable. The savings generated is in the
thousands over the last six years.”
She streamlined all of the resources in the office to make it much
more effective and productive, lowering expenses and generating
revenue. She overhauled the personnel arrangement, and she meets and
trains the staff almost weekly. “She left her imprint on the whole
office.” |
|
| |
“We caught a thief due
to Renee Brown’s services,” said family-practice physician Carla
Werner, M.D.
“We conduct surprise audits, once a year as routine and the morning
Renee Brown showed up for the audit, the employee almost fainted. We
caught it real quick and lost only a couple of thousand dollars.” |
|
| |
“MPC’s Renee Brown or
employee Chance James are readily available and are both
knowledgeable. There’s quick turnaround and they always have
excellent follow-up,” said urologist William Barnes, M.D.
“I have worked with MPC’s Renee Brown for over 10 years. She is a
good friend and has been a valuable resource and consultant in at
least three different practices of mine. Most recently, I set up a
solo office. She interviewed, made hiring recommendations and set up
our systems. Previously, she reviewed documentation and set up
compliance processes.” |
|

“Our collections
were at a standstill,” said rheumatologist Craig Carson, M.D.
“Medical Practice Consultants performed a thorough review of our
coding, billing and collection practices. Several areas were
identified and protocols were established. We have such a respect
for MPC’s Renee Brown. It’s reassuring and comforting to know I can
call and get an answer from someone who knows me and knows my
practice. Anyone can do the work, but if you can’t bring in the
income and stay compliant with government regulations. …Well, she
has made the difference in those areas.”
“When I set up my practice, I had three employees. It has grown to
four providers and 40 employees. That kind of growth and complexity
would have been impossible without her. She understands
benchmarking, billing and coding, so we can make the targets every
month. You’ve got to have direction in life.” MPC’s Renee Brown
provided the direction. |

“I’m able to make a
living and do it very well because of MPC’s Renee Brown,” said
Jeremy Cole, M.D.
“I don’t have to fight to make a living,” said Cole, a specialist in
pulmonary disease and sleep medicine. “It has become so unbelievably
adversarial for most doctors these days. There are so many layers of
(compliance) garbage between you and the patient.”
“Renee Brown set me up on my billing and charges, which are reviewed
annually which tremendously reduced my stress level. She runs the
A/R numbers on our practice and prepares a spread sheet every month.
She meets with the staff and goes over the data.” |

Noel Williams, M.D.,
was seeing a substantial loss of income due to a problematic
business system.
Consequently, the gynecologist left the specialty hospital and
opened his own practice. “We were not familiar with running a
practice. MPC’s Renee Brown helped in every business process and in
hiring an office manager. After we made the transition from the
hospital, we immediately started making money.”
“Renee Brown saves time, money and problem-solves ‘outside the
box.’” For example, the physician came to appreciate nurses are not
sacred cows. “And, she is the best of the best at taking the
personality of the client into consideration.” |

Plastic surgeon
Jayesh Panchal, M.D., had less than six weeks to set up his
practice.
“MPC’s Renee Brown helped me interview the right people, three of
those people I still have. Setting up the right personnel allowed me
to begin my practice on sure footing. Renee is a very organized
person and she met the deadlines. She knows what she is doing, and
she is extremely prompt with her service.” |

Dr. Tom Wolf describes MPC's services as a
"one-stop shop for practice management."
"(Renee Brown's) breadth and depth of knowledge amazes me," said Wolf.
One of the most beneficial services performed by MPC was opening his
practice in 30 days.
"That's almost unheard of," said the
ophthalmologist, who specializes in surgical and medical eye care in
the Oklahoma City area. MPC helped with the appropriate credentials
and was the liaison for locating a business billing service.
"Everyone on my staff thinks she hung the moon," Dr. Wolf said. "She's
very clear and concise and there's no trying to read between the
lines. (Brown) follows up and gets it done".
"She and her staff do a terrific job. They never forget any of the key
details. It amazes me."

MPC already had a
stellar reputation with Integris Physician Services, a 105-physician
group in Oklahoma City. So, when Integris found its collection
percentage was stagnant, Renee Brown's name with MPC was first on the
list to call.
"Renee immediately sensed a denial (of claims) issue. She picked up on
that early," said Sunnie Glover, director of business operations. "She
was pretty frank with us. We said, 'OK, come on Renee, show us,' and
she did."
Brown personally visited several of the 15 Integris clinics as well as
the centralized business office. She found sound policies and
procedures, but not all the personnel were following the guidelines.
MPC developed a monthly audit program to compare the staff's work
against the procedures. "The audit program really allowed us to focus
on not only the problem areas, but the problem people," said Glover.

"MPC put the control
of running our practice back in the doctors' hands," said Dr. Paul
Massad of Edmond, Okla. "(MPC) made us much more profitable
without changing any amount of work that we do."
Dr. Massad, a radiologist in a practice of five physicians, said the
red flag for Diagnostic Radiology came when the physicians perceived
they were performing more work but their income was going down. The
cause? Cutbacks in reimbursements by HMOs and third-party (private
pay) insurance companies, the office was told. But that wasn't the
case.
MPC was called in to analyze the business and evaluate how the
radiologists were billing. Renee Brown evaluated bad debts, income,
expenses, and many other facets of the business practice. She helped
them to streamline their operation and put control back in the hands
of the physicians.
"We were so busy doing what we do best that we forgot about the
management of the practice," said Dr. Massad. |

"Why do I work with
MPC?" responded Joe Taylor.
"They have a real heart for serving physicians. They know how to deal
with physicians and with physician practices, and they are technically
sound," said Taylor who manages a CPA firm based in Fort Worth.
"We use her not because she uses us, but because she is good," said
Taylor. "Renee and Chance (of MPC) are exceptional. They have
excellent technical skills. They have an understanding of the
regulatory parameters and excellent knowledge of medical practices." |

Trust is a key factor
in doing business. MPC proved that through its countless hours in
searching for the truth for Dr. Charles Weddle, an Edmond
anesthesiologist.
"She (Renee Brown) was absolutely on target (in finding what was
causing billing discrepancies). She was prompt with her analysis of
data, and she presented us with numerous spreadsheets to give us a
better understanding of the problem," said Dr. Weddle.
"She spent an exhaustive amount of time, picking away at the data … to
determine the soundness of it. … " |

Dr. Marilyn Nehls of
Oklahoma City had a short timeline in which to put up her "shingle" --
90 days.
In that time, MPC helped Dr. Nehls review insurance company contracts
and fee schedules and design encounter forms. Seven years later, MPC
remains a partner with Nehls, tracking the physician's monthly
reports.
"(Renee's) leadership and experience -- I can't say enough about the
value of that if you are a practicing physician. She can do as little
or as much as you want her to do," said the pediatrics and neonatology
physician. |
|
| |
"Every (medical) office needs oversight," said "Bo"
Olson, a CPA who has known Renee Brown professionally for more
than 25 years. "The physician typically doesn't have the time or have
the inclination to monitor the business office."
He values her attention to detail, her "trouble shooting" and her
vision to find appropriate solutions for his clients, many who are in
the medical industry. |

Dr. Greg
Morgan primarily cares for the elderly and faces the billing
challenges that come with Medicare. The physician was seeing
some gaps and stymied as to what to do.
"My A/R was getting high. Things weren't getting taken care of," he
said.
Dr. Morgan turned to Medical Practice Consultants Inc. MPC evaluated
where the physician stood with his billing service and got the ball
rolling with a new billing service.
The process was difficult. Several billing companies didn't want to
deal with a one-doc practice. "Perhaps some thought it was not worth
their while," he said.
Because MPC is familiar with billing services, Dr. Morgan was able
to make the switch to a new service quickly and was able to collect
past due fees. The new company is doing an excellent job, he said,
and Dr. Morgan has seen a significant increase in his monthly
receipts due to the change and MPC’s monitoring of the accounts
receivable.
"(Renee Brown) is well worth the money she charges, which is nominal
in my opinion," he said. "She's a personable, delightful lady. One I
can reach (to talk to) -- not like a bureaucracy."
